Ralph
D. Roles, D.C., D.A.C.A.N.
Dr. Ralph D. Roles was born and raised
in Las Vegas, Nevada. His first experience with chiropractic
came as a teenager, when he was treated for an asthmatic
condition. A pre-law major in college, his interests
soon turned to his fascination with the study of the
human body, leading him to pursue a career in chiropractic.
He graduated from the University of Pasadena, College
of Chiropractic in 1976 with high honors (Magna Cum
Laude) and was the Valedictorian of his class. After
eight successful years of private practice in Las
Vegas, he, his wife Pamela, and their two children,
Keeley and Kyle moved to Charleston, which is Pam’s
native home. During a career that has spanned 3 decades,
Dr. Roles has continued to broaden his education and
expertise well beyond a college curriculum including
extensive hours of post-graduate training. His continuing-education
efforts have led to certifications from the Parker
Chiropractic Research Foundation, the Southeast Back
Institute, and most recently the University of Florida,
Colleges of Medicine and Health & Human performance.
Most of this certification has been in the area of
diagnosis and treatment of low back pain. In April
of 1993, upon graduating from a three year postgraduate
program in Chiropractic Neurology through Logan Chiropractic
College and the University of Central Florida, Dr.
Roles made South Carolina Chiropractic history by
becoming the first Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist
in the state (D.A.C.A.N., a designation that is still
unique to him in the state). Dr. Roles’ goal
as a physician is to provide his patients with the
highest level of care through the use of his extensive
diagnostic and treatment knowledge and by utilizing
state-of-the art rehabilitation equipment. It was
with this goal in mind that in 1988, he helped establish
the Charleston Neck & Back Center. By acquiring
the latest therapeutic and rehabilitation equipment
and staff, Charleston Neck & Back Center now offers
one of the most technically equipped chiropractic
facilities in the country and can deal effectively
with most conditions involving back or neck pain.
Dr. Roles continues to treat a wide
variety of cases, but he now specializes in the treatment
of headaches, neck pain and chronic lower back pain.
His interests in the treatment of headaches came as
a result of the outstanding success his patients have
enjoyed in response to his treatment. He also feels
that there is no greater professional reward than
being able to rid a person of such a painful, re-occurring
condition. His interest in specialty low back work
was enhanced by his training through the Southeast
Back Institute, the University of Florida, Colleges
of Medicine and Health & Human Performance and
his post-doctorate studies in neurology. His often-made
statement “no person should elect low back
surgery before attempting all conservative treatment
available” is a reflection on his experience
that most cases of low back pain (lumbar disc involvement
included) can be successfully treated conservatively.
Dr. Roles currently does consulting and second opinion
work for many local chiropractic and medical physicians.
Dr. Roles has been actively involved with the South
Carolina State Chiropractic Association since the
early 90’s. He was elected president of the
association in 1998.
When not at his office caring for
patients, you’ll find Dr. Roles enjoying time
with his family. He is a Deacon for the Baptist Church,
and actively seeks God’s will in his life. Dr.
Roles enjoys and participates in racquetball, golf,
and snow skiing. He is an avid private pilot and holds
an instrument rated single engine license. |
